Note: To compete for the Overall Founder’s Award, a program must first submit complete application packets for Student Growth, Community Involvement and Collaboration, and Project Sophistication and Innovation. Failure to submit complete application packets for any of the initial three categories will result in disqualification for the Overall Founder’s Award.

The Overall Founder's Award competition is designed to highlight a program that exemplifies and goes beyond each of the founding elements of EAST.

Client Selfie Video

Applicants will submit a video of their client describing their work with the EAST program. Ideally, the client will highlight the problem-solving, teamwork, and real-world collaboration. This is not just an opportunity to sing the praise of the EAST program, rather the client needs to explain why the EAST program is so invaluable. In the video, the client should identify the problem, provide a snapshot of the process / progress (and a solution, if reached), and explain how crucial the EAST program was in tackling this project.

Tip: For best results, give the client space to record the statement without student or facilitator involvement. We have seen this alleviate pressure and it discourages embellishment from their response. Encourage the client to keep it simple and casual. One take is recommended.

Video Requirements

  • Length: 3 minutes maximum
  • Give details of the what and why. Do not overdo it with adjectives (e.g. wonderful, awesome, impressive, mind blowing, just wow, etc.).
  • In the first part of the video, the client should give the name of the project / program
    • Example: “I am Joe Smith, Executive Director of Potholes-R-Us. We worked with Duckbill EAST to help brainstorm ideas of how to monitor potholes in our town.”
  • The video can be submitted in one of two ways:
    • Upload the video to the submission form. To use this option, the video must be specifically formatted: .mp4 encoded with H.264 codec or .mov and HD resolution of 1920 x 1080 preferred
    • Host it online (i.e. YouTube, Google Drive, Dropbox, etc.) with a shareable link and include a link to it on the submission form.

Submission Instructions

Follow the instructions below and submit your completed application by 3 p.m., CST, January 30, 2018.

REMEMBER: DO NOT wait until the last day or the last minute to submit your application. The submission form will automatically disable at 3:01 p.m., CST on the deadline date. If you are in the middle of submitting a form at this time, your submission will NOT be received. If the form does not disable properly, submissions received after 3:00 p.m., CST will still not be considered in order to remain fair and consistent for all applicants. Please remember that upload speeds can vary depending on file type, school bandwidth, etc. Deadline days have a high volume of students submitting, which can also cause delays in uploading files and submitting applications. If you encounter an issue on the day of a deadline, the EAST Initiative staff may have limited (if any) availability to provide assistance. The EAST Initiative CANNOT grant you a deadline extension or help you to submit later if something goes wrong.

Step 1 - Complete the Submission Form

Complete the form with information about their client, including name, title, organization, phone number, and email address. On the application, you will also upload the zipped file detailed in Step 2.

Step 2 - Upload / Link Client Selfie Video

As a reminder, the video can be submitted in one of two ways:

  • Upload the video to the submission form. Require format: .mp4 encoded with H.264 codec or .mov and HD resolution of 1920 x 1080 preferred
  • Host it online (i.e. YouTube, Google Drive, Dropbox, etc.) with a shareable link and include a link to it on the submission form.

Step 3 - Submit

When the application is complete, click the “Submit” button. When your submission is complete the page will change and state that the submission has been received. Once you see this page, you will not be able to make any changes. Following your submission, an email confirmation will be sent to you and EAST staff. If you do not receive an email, you should assume there was an error, and your submission was not complete. Our recommendation is to go back to Jotform and complete the form again. If you still receive an error, please email events@eaststaff.org, or contact a member of the events team directly.
